What is involved in the Assisted felling and Felling trees over 380mm course?
- Lantra Assisted Felling
- Felling trees over 380mm, up to 760mm
- 5 days training, plus 1 day City & Guilds assessment
- Safety on site
- PPE and Industry Best Practice Felling
- Takedown, snedding and cross cutting techniques, and presentation of produce for trees up to 2 times guidebar length and not greater than 760mm in diameter
- Use of felling and timber handling aid tools.
What qualifications do I need to have to do this course?
- Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting
- Felling trees up to 380mm
- Some experience of winching would be an advantage.
- Training should be refreshed every 3-5 years.
Do I have to do Assisted felling as well?
- No! We use the assisted felling techniques during Felling trees over 380mm but you don't have to do the qualification
- If you already hold Assisted Felling, you can attend a slightly shorter course duration
What kit to I need and do I need to bring my own?
- Chainsaw - 15" guidebar, fuel, oil, maintenance tools
- Chainsaw PPE
- Wedges
- Timber tongs
- Timber tape
- Felling levers
- We have kit available to hire if required.
Where are the courses held?
Our tree surgery courses are held on site in near Tunbridge Wells, where we have a fully equipped heated workshop and plenty of woodland.
Do I need a First Aid qualification?
- First Aid training is an essential part of your preparation to use chainsaws, so please look into this if you do not currently hold a relevant qualification.

- He offers a more bespoke course for the industry – although all the skills are covered (including catastrophic bleeds and trauma), the scenarios and accidents discussed are tailored to the forestry and arb industry.
