Wilderness Wood

Wilderness Wood caters for families and friends, providing a fun day out in the beautiful natural 63 acre woodland at Hadlow Down. Children and adults will have the chance to experience a range of woodland activities: art and crafts, cooking in the mud kitchen, swinging through the trees on the giant swing and woodland walks.

Camping is also available at Wilderness Wood, where you can stay deep in the wild. There are options to stay in a tipi tent in one of the paddocks or spend a night in a shepherd’s hut.

Lucy’s Little Forest School runs regular activities and children’s groups such as the ‘Mud Kitchen’ where children can create wonderful woodland dishes, Family Castaway and Fire Craft.

Anne Yarrow, the previous owner of the Woods (for 33 years), runs fungus hunts and workshops where you can learn about identifying mushrooms and toadstools with the emphasis on edible and poisonous ones.

Andrew Coates Woodland Product and Services are also based close to here. Andrew is an experienced woodsman, carpenter and conservationist.

Wilderness Cafe serves delicious, home-cooked meals and cakes, snacks and superb coffee. ‘Simple, local and tasty’ - is their ethos and we love it!
